Tammy Liles is the Owner and Founder of Fading Traditions Barber Shop. She took cosmetology in high school before apprenticing under Mr. Vern Smith — a 70-year-old barber in Griffin who mentored her for six years starting in 2002. She earned her Licensed Master Barber credential in 2006 and spent 16 years cutting hair in independent barber shops across Griffin, Georgia.
In November 2018, Tammy opened Fading Traditions in a 500-square-foot shop in Griffin with just three chairs. The business grew quickly, and in 2021 she remodeled a new location and moved the shop to its current home on North Hill Street.
The name "Fading Traditions" carries a double meaning close to Tammy's heart. "Fading" is a type of haircut, and "traditions" honors the old-school barber shop culture — straight razor, hot lather, steamed towels — that is fading away in the modern world. She wanted to preserve that experience and make it relevant for a new generation.
What started with three chairs in that 500-square-foot shop has grown into a team of 11, including her son Dillon and her niece Amanda — making Fading Traditions a three-generation family operation. Dillon apprenticed under Tammy in 2019 and is now training Amanda, carrying the family legacy forward.
Tammy specializes in men's and boys' cuts, military cuts, flat tops, skin fades, and beard trims. Over her career, she has been there for her clients' biggest moments — first haircuts, graduations, weddings, and even last haircuts. For Tammy, her clients aren't just customers; they're friends and family.
Under her leadership, Fading Traditions has earned a 4.9-star Google rating from 279+ reviews and serves multi-generational families from across Spalding County and the surrounding communities. Saturday mornings at the shop have become a Griffin tradition — 20 to 30 people in line, kids getting ready for little league, families gathering, and everybody getting a great cut.
